We’re proud to congratulate our FNRS PhD student Anne-Sophie Voisin and our Master student Melodie Locrel for having won the award for the best PhD poster at the 21th Benelux Congress of Zoology. This conference has been held in Liège, Belgium, the 12-13 December 2014 and was a contest among more than 100 young scientists.
The poster presented was entitled : “DNA methylation in the mangrove rivulus and effects of EE2 on its developmental plasticity”. It fisrt reported DNA methylation level in brain and gonads of our amazing mangrove fish. First results indicated that DNA methylation level was lower in brain than in other fish species. Moreover, gonads from hermaphordites have lower DNA methylation level than testis from males. These data open new research perspectives to understand the role of DNA methylation, and more broadly epigenetics, in phenotypic plasticity in vertebrates.
These results are part of Anne-Sophie’s PhD thesis and Melodie’s MSc thesis. It has received the help of Alexandre Fellous, Elodie Falisse and Enora Flamion.
